Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro review

The DEEBOT M80 Pro vacuum from Ecovacs company is just one example of how robot vacuum cleaners have revolutionized cleaning. It is a tough candidate and there was more to this robot than we initially thought. In our Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro review, we learned quite a few things. For starters, did you know that the DEEBOT has a longer runtime than 64% of robotic vacuums?

Not only that, but it has a cleaning area of 120 square meters. That’s perfect for a medium-sized apartment. There were a lot of other features that we found were helpful in their own way.

In this DEEBOT M80 Pro review, we’ve highlighted the main features as well as some in-depth specs. In short, we recommend the DEEBOT for small to medium-sized rooms with low pile carpet or bare floors. It is not recommended for use with virtual walls and does not feature a carpet boost.

Short description

At first look, the Ecovacs DEEBOT has an elegant metallic design. The body is low-profile, easy to pick up, and easy to dismantle intentionally. The design features one main V-shaped brush, two side brushes, and a mop reservoir. The suction power is about 500 Pascals, perfect for bare floors and low-pile carpets. It is because of this low suction and the 3,000 mAh batteries that this unit can run for up to 110 minutes.

The Ecovacs DEEBOT works in 5 processes. The sweep and lift processes lift up the dirt, while the vacuum sucks and filters the air. Additionally, a wet and dry mopping function keeps the floor shining and free of stains. This also ensures that any residue left behind is picked up by the mopping cloth. This robotic vacuum has a dustbin of 500 ml capacity, fit for two cleaning sessions.

Apart from that, the Ecovacs also features anti-drop and bump sensors. This unit can climb up barriers as high as 0.59 inches. And it can detect drops as steep as 3.1 inches. This prevents damage to both your equipment and your furniture. Obstacle sensors also play a role in navigation.

The DEEBOT M80 has 4 cleaning modes: auto, edge, spot, and intense. The intense mode is suitable for carpets and other stains that are harder to get rid of. The DEEBOT M80 is one of the most customizable robotic vacuums. Read our Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro review to find out more about this luxury item.

Design and construction

The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 will not only make a great companion, but it will brighten up your home. The robot has a metallic exterior appearance that looks minimal and futuristic. Your interior will be taken to the next level. The robot has a height of 3.3 inches, which allows it to crawl under small spaces. This is ideal for cleaning your living room, where there are a lot of tables and chairs. The robot weighs about 9.7 pounds. This isn’t too light, but it’s light enough to pick up.

A lot of elderly and physically handicapped people use robotic vacuums. So, it is increasingly important to make them easier to pick up. The sides have two brushes that clean along the edge. These brushes are the best at picking up dust that most vacuums would otherwise miss. The DEEBOT M80 works in multiple steps. It includes a V-shaped main brush and two side brushes. The interior has a vacuum, a dustbin, and a water reservoir. The reservoir provides water for the wet cleaning cloth to mop the floor. Then a dry cloth is used to dry the floor along the way.

The dustbin can easily be removed using a handy mechanism provided. The bin itself can contain up to 500 ml or half a liter of dust and garbage. The entire unit has locking mechanisms that are easy to open in case of troubleshooting.

Suction power

Suction power is what changes the game. It is the suction power that decides the function of the robot. The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 has a suction power of about 500 Pascals. This is slightly less than some other vacuums we’ve seen. Normally, a majority of the higher end vacuums have a suction power of at least 1,000 Pascals. But don’t worry, this power is enough to keep it working smoothly on bare floors.

However, the same cannot be said for carpeted floors. The Ecovacs DEEBOT does not work well on high or medium-pile carpets. On low-pile carpets, the suction power is able to vacuum food crumbs and pet hair. But that also depends on the thickness of the substance and how deeply it is embedded in the carpet. Dried food crumbs are almost impossible to remove.

Higher suction power means more battery consumption. Two good features of having a lower power motor are longer runtime and quiet operation. The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro robot vacuum cleaner operates at just 56 dB. This is quieter than a majority of other robotic vacuums. Moreover, the DEEBOT M80 has a runtime of about 110 minutes. That’s for about 2 hours. With all of this, the motor, albeit slightly weaker, is twice as efficient as a regular robotic vacuum.

5-stage cleaning system

The one aspect that makes the DEEBOT so unique is its five-stage cleaning system. Even in just one swipe, there are 5 cleaning processes occurring altogether. Firstly, dust is swept up by the side brushes. Then it is lifted and sucked into the vacuuming unit. Here, the air is filtrated via the high-efficiency HEPA filter. Along with that, the floor is cleaned by a dampened mop. Finally, the dry mopping function kicks in, drying out the floor as it goes.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 pro

In this way, you get the benefit of sweeping, lifting, vacuuming, mopping, and drying. The DEEBOT features this complicated system which isn’t featured by many others. Most vacuums don’t even have a mopping function. With this, you don’t have to worry about floor cleaning. All the work of sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping is automatically performed.

Cleaning modes

Let’s review the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro cleaning modes.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 pro cleaning modes

The default mode is the Auto Mode. In this, the robot goes about the house cleaning as per schedule. It uses its smart sensors to detect obstacles and drops. The DEEBOT can sense drops higher than 3.1 inches. So, it can climb down shallow ledges and carpets. But it will avoid stairs and large drops.

The Intense Mode provides enhanced suction power and speed. This is ideal for carpeted floors. The DEEBOT does not automatically transition to the Intense Mode when going on carpets. So, you’ll need to manually switch modes. This mode is a rather cheap and slightly less effective alternative to Carpet Boost. Keep in mind that the enhanced speed and suction will drain your battery faster.

The Spot Mode makes the DEEBOT spiral around one spot. This is recommended for those stains which are harder to remove. Or for when you have a huge mess on a high pile carpet. The DEEBOT isn’t recommended for use on high-pile carpets.

The Edge Mode allows the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro robotic vacuum cleaner to swiftly clean around the edges. This model features two side brushes (with two spare brushes). The smart sensors sense the perimeter of the room while the brushes clean alongside it. This feature is perfect if you want to clean around the edges of the room. The edge is usually where most of the dirt gets swept up, and it’s harder to clean with canister vacuums.

Anti-bump and drop sensors

The Ecovacs DEEBOT features tons of different sensors. A few of these are the bump and drop sensors. The bump sensors sense whether there is an obstacle in the way. This robotic vacuum can climb up a certain height of bumps. But if the bump is higher or too steep, it will avoid it completely. This keeps your robot safe from hitting furniture and keeps your furniture safe as well. It also saves your pets and infants from getting damaged by the force of the vacuum.

Drop sensors check to see whether there is a drop below the robot. This includes steep drops like stairways and ditches. The drop sensors in the Ecovacs DEEBOT will divert the unit if the drop is deeper than 3.1 inches. In this way, shallow decorative ledges and depressions won’t be avoided. But your robot will avoid stairways and drops from side railing.

Floor types and performance

Continuing our Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro review, let’s see how this robot vacuum cleaner works on various types of floors.

The performance of the M80 Pro was beyond our expectations. The unit is small and low-profile, so it can easily crawl under furniture. It can navigate around furniture legs and provides great suction power. The DEEBOT can essentially work on bare and carpeted floors. But the performance is limited. On carpeted floors, it only works with low-pile carpets. High or medium-pile carpets pose difficulties for the DEEBOT. When we tried this robot, it couldn’t remove tangled pet hair and food crumbs. And it kept turning on its own on thicker carpets.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 pro carpet cleaning

However, turning on the Intense mode enhanced suction drastically. More hair and food crumbs were suctioned into the dustbin. As for bare floors, the DEEBOT performed wonderfully well. It didn’t stop once other than to avoid table legs and toys. It is suitable for hardwood, tiled, laminated, and even linoleum floors. The DEEBOT works on all types of bare floors.

Battery life and charging time

The other great feature of the M80 Pro is that it has extended battery life. This robot vacuum unit can run for a total of 110 minutes on a full charge. That’s for about 2 hours. The long runtime means you can clean more rooms and get the job done in lesser time. The suction speed and runtime make it perfect for small and medium-sized rooms.

The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro robot vacuum cleaner uses two AA batteries of 3,000 mAh. This is what gives the Ecovacs its high power and runtime. Moreover, the batteries are both included in the package. So you get everything you need to get your DEEBOT started up. Unfortunately, the Ecovacs takes up to 4 hours to fully charge up. This is pretty long, considering most vacuums take a maximum of 3 hours. However, the wait is worth it, as the unit will last for 2 hours on a full charge.

Auto-recharge technology

Speaking of the battery, the DEEBOT M80 Pro features an auto-recharge technology. This means that when the robot’s battery is low, it will go to the charging dock and recharge itself. You won’t have to worry about recharging the bot as it auto redocks for charging. This will save you charging time. The DEEBOT M80 Pro will be ready for use whenever you need it. This auto recharging tech isn’t something new. Almost every other robotic vacuum has it. But if this Ecovacs robot didn’t have this feature, we would be disappointed.

Not only that, but the Ecovacs also features recharge and resume. This means that you can use the app to program the vacuum to resume cleaning after recharging. So you can get your chores done once the robot is recharged. However, the bot takes about 4 hours to recharge. So this feature isn’t all that helpful unless you can wait 4 hours to resume.

Scheduling and remote control

Scheduling is another aspect of Ecovacs DEEBOT. Like many other robotic vacuums, you can create intricate time schedules on the Ecovacs. You can set the Ecovacs to start up every morning at a certain time. Or you can schedule it to the only vacuum overnight when you’re sleeping. The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro has a noise level of 56 decibels, which is very low in comparison to canister vacuums. With this, you can easily sleep all night without any disturbances.

Other than that, the package comes with its own remote control and batteries. The remote control will let you schedule the DEEBOT M80 Pro, manually control it, and change modes. This remote is great if you’re running into issues with the app. Or if your Wi-Fi isn’t working. The remote makes shifting through various cleaning modes easier. You can control your DEEBOT M80 Pro from the comfort of your living room.

Dustbin capacity

Robotic vacuums naturally have a lesser capacity than canister vacuums. However, among other robot vacuums, the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro has an astonishing capacity. This bot’s easy-remove dustbin can hold up to 500 ml of dirt. Moreover, it can be easily removed and washed for the next use. It is recommended to clean out the dustbin once every month or so. Of course, this depends on how often you use it and messy your floors are.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 pro dustbin

The dustbin maintenance is made easier with the smart Dirt Detect technology. Your robot vacuum will sweep those areas first which have more dirt. In this way, you save on the robot’s power and maximize your dustbin’s capacity. The dustbin of the M80 Pro has a handle to easily remove it. The product does not feature a full bin indicator, so regular checkups are required.

Smartphone connectivity

Perhaps one of the most outstanding features of the DEEBOT M80 Pro, this robot is compatible with smartphones. It uses a low-frequency Wi-Fi range to connect to your smartphones and tablets. You can download the app with zero extra subscriptions. And the app works smoothly and effortlessly.

Ecovacs M80 pro smartphone controlWith the app, you can make nifty schedules and change the settings. You can quickly change the mode of the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro robotic vacuum cleaner. And you can set a dedicated time for cleaning and vacuuming. The app also allows you to manually control the robot. This is in case the robot hasn’t mapped your room or you need to quickly clean a few spots. It’s also best for edge cleaning, although there are other methods to get that done.

What’s even better is that through the smartphone app, you can start cleaning even when you’re not home. The app works across platforms and makes accessibility easier. Now you can start your Ecovacs even when away from the house.

Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant Support

Home assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant make life easier. They connect all your devices together and make your home more connected. The most prominent assistants are Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Unlike many other robot vacuums, the DEEBOT M80 Pro has compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 pro Amazon Alexa and Google AssistantSo, you can use all of Alexa’s features with the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro. The one advantage of using Alexa to control the DEEBOT is voice control. You can use Amazon Alexa to control your robot through the Alexa unit. However, without home assistants, voice prompts don’t work on the M80 Pro.

Compatibility with home assistants makes your devices more secure and connected. In this way, you can control all of your cleaning equipment from one spot. Home assistants are a great innovation, and devices that don’t work with them are a disappointment. Luckily, the DEEBOT M80 Pro is compatible with all home assistants.

Accessories

What’s a high-tech robotic vacuum without all the extra goodies? With the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro, you get extra stuff for free! The package includes a few spare filters. Mainly, the sponge and high-efficiency filters are included. Along with that, it includes an IR remote controller with its batteries. The remote will help you control your robot from a distance.

The entire set contains two AA batteries that are needed to start the vacuum. A wet wiping cloth and wet/dry water reservoir are also included. This will be needed for mopping the floor and needs to be set up before use. An automatic charging dock is also provided along with four side brushes. A measuring cup along with a user’s guide concludes the accessories. The measuring cup can be used to measure out the amount of water needed for the reservoir. Virtual walls and boundaries are not included.

Warranty policy

The next best thing after the accessories is the warranty policy. Many companies offer a free replacement and exchange period for their products. The Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro offers a warranty period of up to 12 months. This means that you can get free replacements and quick exchanges for up to a year. Of course, limitations and liabilities apply. We don’t know the full regulations of the policy, but it should cover most damage.

Final thoughts

There were a lot of exceptional features that inspired us to write this Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 Pro review. The main features that stuck out were the 5-stage cleaning and smartphone connectivity. If you missed out, the DEEBOT uses 5 stages of cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping. The Ecovacs DEEBOT is also compatible with smartphones and home assistants. This feature increases accessibility and connectivity. It makes all your devices some together as one.

If you plan on buying this model, we recommend changing the filter at least every 6 months. For commercial use such as in malls and large offices, a 2-month change is recommended. The internal brushes should be changed at your own convenience. But the company advises getting them changed between 6 to 12 months of use.

Overall, the Ecovacs DEEBOT was an 8/10. Writing this review was a lot of fun. And getting to experience the Ecovacs DEEBOT M80 was definitely thrilling.
